New Year, Same Old Me: Goals for 2017

It's a new year, and I'm going to change my life for the better! No booze, work out, save more money, and remake myself so that I look like a walking Pinterest board.

Or not.

I don't really like to do resolutions, but I do try to self myself some goals every year. Last year's were a bit hit or miss - I did manage to stay up a bit later to spend time with Brian on a somewhat regular basis, but I failed utterly at buying less or spending more on the individual items - but I do have some high hopes for my 2017 goals.

Style Goals

1. Accessorize thoughtfully.
I've basically accepted that I'm going to be a minimalist when it comes to my accessories. I love the girls with the arms full of bangles and the perfect brooch and a great set of earrings and an awesome hat, but I'm just not that person. A couple of well chosen accessories is more my speed, so I'm going to try and streamline my accessories closet - ditch some of the things I never wear, and pick up some cool, versatile pieces to polish up my outfits.

2. Experiment more with menswear.
I already mentioned this in my "favorites of the year" roundup, but some of my favorite looks last year involved menswear, and it's a look that I'd like to explore a bit more. A woman in a sharp suit and tie still feels unique and subversive, even in 2017, and I'd like to add elements of it to my everyday style.

3. Stop buying high heels that I don't wear.
I adore the look of high heels, but beyond a few pairs of low, block-heeled shoes (which I wear all the time), I just don't wear them. I walk, bike, or take the train everywhere, and 4-inch heels just aren't practical for the life I live. Instead of buying heels, I'm going to start spending my money on pretty flats and low heels, even if I miss the leg lengthening power or a great set of stilettos.

Personal Goals

1. Be a more adventurous eater.
I'm not a picky eater by any stretch of the imagination, but I do tend to reach for the same foods day in and day out. I'd like to head to a bigger grocery store, or one of the ethnic ones in my area, to try and find some fun, new foods to try out.

2. Plan date nights with a little more care.
As my last goal might suggest, I'm a creature of habit, content to do more or less the same thing on a regular basis. Every Friday night, Brian's like "what should we do tonight?" And every Friday night, I'm like "the same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!" (No joke, I do say that a lot, much to Brian's annoyance. He's not the Pinky and the Brain fan that I am.) I'm going to try to put aside a bit more money for fun, and research all of the cool, fun places that Chicago has to offer.

3. Work harder to make connections and maintain the ones that I have.
I'm an introverted person, and as a general rule I don't really crave company. I'm not always great about keeping in touch with the people who are important to me, even though I'm always happy to spend time with the people that I love. This year, I'm going to really push myself to reach out more often, and not be such a hermit.

Blogging Goals

1. Finish my media kit, and actually send it out to companies that I'd like to work with.
I've always been a bit embarrassed about actually soliciting sponsorships - I mean, who the hell am I? But my numbers are growing, and I feel like the quality of my content has taken a definite upswing in the past year. Successful people aren't afraid of a little self promotion, and if I get some nos, well, it's just a no.

2. Plan ahead.
I've always kind of flown by the seat of my pants - it's been something of an accomplishment to get a photo shoot done a week ahead of time, since I usually only get them done a day or two before I post them. If we have some bad weather or I get busy, though, sometimes they just don't happen. It's not that hard to plan things out a little further in advance, and I know that would help immensely with my consistency.

3. Do more videos.
I love making videos, but I've only done a handful. I'd like set up a better spot in my house for shooting them and figure out some fun subjects.

So what are your goals for the new year? Anything fun and exciting?
