Bluebird

I love this absurd little dress. It is, at least for me, a lot of look - the vivid robin's egg blue color, the billowing chiffon sleeves, the giant bow at the neck. And yet, despite the fact that it's not really in my wheelhouse, stylistically speaking, as soon as I saw it I had to have it.

Of course, now that I'm writing this post out and talking about how I find this dress to be just a smidge over the top, it strikes me as hilarious that I decided the best thing to do was throw on a wig and silver glitter heels, but didn't wear a strong lip color because that would be too much. Girl, what?

One of the things that I enjoy about this dress is that it has the air of "rich young wife slumming it with hippies in LA in 1967." It makes me think of someone from one of the later seasons of Mad Men, and I mean that in the best sense. It's such a fun look, and it felt like the perfect way to welcome spring.

Last week I mentioned that I'd forgotten to charge my camera battery, meaning my range of shots was fairly limited. Well, I didn't take my own advice about preparation this week either - I got to the location where I'd planned to shoot and discovered that there was a marathon going on, so the place was swarming with people. Oops. It was early enough that I still managed to get my shots, but I'm glad I didn't get there any later!

So what do you guys think? Do you try to balance out a bold dress with simple styling, or go all in on the drama?
