Vigil

Vigil

It’s the second week of quarantine. Time has lost all meaning. I’ve gone full-on Miss Havisham, lurking around my apartment in fancy dresses and headpieces. When forced to venture out, I warily eye everyone who gets within sneezing distance, prepared to sprint away at a moment’s notice.

But anyway, yeah, I’m doing great! How are you?

In all seriousness, I’m settling in, and I feel like I’m getting used to the isolation a little bit. I’ve been trying to embrace being physically distant but emotionally available, keeping up with those video chats and text messages with friends. I also found out that the first season of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is currently available on Amazon Prime (although only for a couple more days!), and I signed up for a free trial of Acorn TV so that I could watch the Miss Fisher movie (which, so far, is cheesy but stylish fun).

This is the second photo shoot that I’ve done in my apartment, and while I like the results I do miss being able to get nice full length shots - they just don’t seem to turn out well with the lenses and space that I have available. All of these headshots are making me feel rather vain. I guess this is the moment to embrace crazy hats, and possibly to finally learn how to do drag makeup.

After my last post I received the sweetest email from London (hi there! Not sure if you want me to mention your name here, so I’ll err on the side of caution and just say that I loved the email). The reader mentioned that she was happy that I was posting again, and encouraged me to continue with my creative pursuits, and I thought that was amazing advice. She also mentioned that unfortunately Discus wasn’t working for her - frankly, it’s not working for me at the moment either, so sorry if I haven’t responded to comments. I will work on getting that sorted out, or maybe just getting rid of it entirely, but in the meantime, feel free to shoot me an email if you’d like!

If you’re interested in the song that I drew this post title from, here is Vigil by Madder Mortem. There is a sense of longing to this song that I think really fits my mood right now.

Stay sane, stay safe, and stay home!
