Graceland

Graceland

Ha! Well, I clearly can’t blame my lack of updates on lack of time anymore - even though I’m working from home and have LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE TO DO I still manage to go a month between posts. Oh well.

We’re still under our shelter-in-place order here in Chicago, but I figured it wouldn’t do any harm to go for a socially distant walk in the cemetery by my house and bring my camera. The weather’s been kind of crappy lately - chilly, windy, and rainy - but Saturday was absolutely beautiful, and it was a real treat to step outside without a jacket on. Seeing some flowers in bloom was a lovely antidote to all of the depressing stuff going on the world. Life goes on, right?

I know that sometimes taking fashion photos in a cemetery can be a little… iffy. However, Graceland is on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s also a park, and I wasn’t laying on top of any of the graves, so I feel like I’m in the clear here. I definitely recommend looking it up online, because some of the tombs are really incredible, and it’s the finally resting place of a number of famous figures.

Moral quandaries aside, let’s talk about this suit! I’m sincerely in love with it - the minty gingham check, the cute little white collar, the peplum top, the swingy skirt. It is simply 1940s perfection. While it certainly doesn’t require a belt, I loved the contrast between the yellow and mint, so you can imagine how excited I was when I found a forsythia bush in full bloom about 5 minutes into my walk.

I’ve really enjoyed exploring my new neighborhood in the past few weeks. There is a lot going on in the world, and while I’m grateful for my health and financial stability, working from home can be kind of stressful - I feel like I’m always on, so speak, and I go back and forth between freaking out a little bit and being bored out of my mind. Putting on some music and going for a walk has really helped me feel a little more balanced. I’ve also found some very nice (and secluded! I feel like I should mention that!) spots where I’d like to do some more shoots in the near future.

I hope you all are staying sane and staying healthy!
