Painted Garden

Happy July!

I’m not going to get too heavy here, but I wanted to start off by addressing what’s been going on in Chicago, in America, and around the world this past month. First off, Black lives matter. No buts, no equivocation, no debate - they do, and for too long America has treated them like they don’t. That needs to change, and it’s needed to change for a long time. Anyone with eyes and ears and a heart should have seen this coming. Over this past month I’ve been trying to play my role in this - educating myself, elevating Black voices, protesting, and donating what money I can to support the cause. I’m going to continue to do these things, because this can’t be just a moment, but the beginning a sustained wave of change.

Alright, I’m going to climb off my soapbox and get frivolous. Ready?

If you’re a vintage loving person with an Instagram account, you’ve probably seen the various scarf top tutorials put together by @riacarruthers. I’ve always wondered how to make a scarf top, so I was super excited and inspired by the different looks that she put together. This is one of the styles that she recommended using two scarves, and it’s definitely going to be a go-to for me this summer.

This gorgeous floral mural is just down the street from my house, and I’ve been wanting to use it as a backdrop for photos for a while now. I decided that this was the morning that I’d finally haul my ass out of bed early enough to have the street to myself, and I’m pretty thrilled with how it worked out.

I’m… slightly less thrilled with my hair at the moment. I just got it cut, and while I was craving a change (and my ends were quite fried), I am finding myself missing my long hair. And the bangs - why did I get bangs again? For some reason I do it every couple of years, and each time I tell myself that I’m never doing it again. But hey, it’s hair; it’ll either grow on me or, literally, grow on me, so I’m trying not to let myself get too fussed about it. With everything that’s going on in the world, if my hair is my biggest concern I’m counting myself lucky.

I hope that everyone is keeping well! Stay safe and stay sane.
